The new railroad village was called Downingville in honor of Lewis Downing, then chief of the Cherokees.

One of the businesses was a store built and operated by John Swain, who came to Vinita in 1874, and his wife, Rebecca, part Cherokee.
The store sign bore her name – not his – because non-Cherokees could not own property.

Main street was named for Alexander Wilson, grandfather of Mrs. Rebecca Swain.

Clara Leforce married Russell Hunt. She died 7/5/1963, Russell died 3/30/1944. Both are buried at Fairview Cemetary in Vinita.

Mollie(Mary) Leforce married Charles Banzet. Both are buried at Fairview cemetary in Vinita.

Sara(Viola)Leforce married Nelson B. Chamberlain. Sara died 1949, Nelson died 1936. Both are buried at Fairview Cemetary in Vinita.

Lorene(Peggy)Leforce married Lloyd Stephens and is living in Wagner, Oklahoma.
